The New Hamburg Lioness Club
The New Hamburg Lioness Club has enjoyed 30 years of service to our community. The prime reason for being a Lioness is to help others. Working together, we have assisted many local organizations with funding, raised through various ventures. The Tree of Light is our biggest fundraiser and in 2010 we will celebrate our 27th year for this project.
You will see Lioness around town selling daffodils for the Canadian Cancer Society, hosting a Spring Fashion Show, staffing a Blood Donor Clinic or running the food booth at the Interfaith Silent Auction in April. We also enjoy time with our Aldaview friends at the Lioness Oktoberfest, Bingo and Christmas Parties. We assist the New Hamburg Lions at Moparfest and the Woodstock Farm Show or wherever they need a helping hand.
We are pleased to offer our second New Hamburg Welcome Home Tour. All funds raised from this venture will go to The Wilmot Family Resource Centre and Interfaith Community Counselling Centre. Being a Lioness develops long-standing friendships and personal satisfaction of knowing the time and energy spent has served to make our community a better place.
New Members are always welcomed. For information, please call Carol Massel at 519 662-1803.
The New Hamburg Lions Club
The New Hamburg Lions Club received their charter in 1968 and was proud to celebrate their 40th Anniversary in 2008. Like many active service clubs, we are busy raising funds throughout the year through our involvement with Moparfest, the Woodstock Farm Show, The Tree of Light Campaign and The Lion Community Cash Calendar.
Over the years we have supported many requests for assistance: air conditioning in the New Hamburg Community Centre, a driving force behind the New Hamburg Pool, sponsoring blood donor clinics, providing the trained manpower for the July 1st, Canada Day fireworks, drug awareness programs and student eye screening at local public schools, offering support for youth exchange programs, student bursaries in memory of past Lions members and a pledge of $75,000 to the Wilmot Recreation Centre.
The New Hamburg Lions built and supported the Aldaview workshop for over 15 years and recently built their second group home for the developmentally challenged named The Phyllis Riehl House, providing the majority of the funds of over $300,000. Our Lions club has always been an available helping hand to individuals and groups within our community. Our motto is WE SERVE and service to those less fortunate has been our goal.
We thank the community for their ongoing support and congratulate all who help in making New Hamburg a great place to live.
